piece and co. is a business that connectswomen artisans in the developing world with fashion brands. we partnered with nordstromon this campaign which is a collection of artisan-made products from eight different amazing designers. the designers that we work with are looking for inspiration everywhere. the fact that we can come to them with a collection of artisan techniques from around the world-- and couple that with the fact that when they use those textiles, they're creating sustainable employment for women--
Nordstrom Party Dresses Wedding, it's a win-win. it's something that a lot of designers that we talk to are really excited about. 80% of the artisans that we work with are women, and this collection is made by women in rural mexico, india, vietnam and zambia. since launchingthe business, what i've really realized is that
there's not a lot of differences between women here and women all over the world. you know, we want the same things, but what is different is the opportunities that we have. the fashion industry is huge, and to me that meansthat is has the power to make a huge impact. it's a real women-led community, both from a designer perspective and from the women that are buying the clothes. when women from around the world come together, pretty amazing things happen. i was interviewing a leader of a co-opin india, and i said, "what's been the most powerful thing about this?" and she said, "hope spreads. it starts here, but hope has spread throughout our entire community." this idea of ripple effects, and the ripple effect of hope, has been something that we believe sostrongly in, and i believe it's going to continue
to grow as it spreads to you, as you buy these clothes and make them your own.
