a woman who hoped that her daughter wouldsometime find the man of her dreams was a little upset whenher white daughter brought home a black partner. however, as she got to know thepartner she decided that he is
What Is The Party After A Wedding Called, actually a great christian guyand she decided to write about her experience so peopleunderstand what this is like and know how to get through it. when she wrote this piece shedidn't expect the amount of
criticism she got. let me give you the details. by the way, who reads thegospel coalition? the fact that that went viralis kind of amazing. so the title of her blog was"when god sends your daughter a black husband." >>guess who's coming to dinner? >> i hesitate to say this but iam a little torn on this story. >>really?
>> i am. hear me out. first of all, i think it takesgigantic balls to come out and say i was really iffy on himbecause he was black, but here is what i experienced and irealized i was being a dick. but to say that this was myracial bias, i realize it, and it was stupid and i workedthrough it, i think it opens up a dialogue that i do notwant to put a stop to. i think that dialogue isimportant.
she comes from an ignorantplace, and to come out and say that you were ignorant andhere's how you've grown i think is valuable. >>you sold her though. i disagree with you. yes, it is not malicious, it ispure ignorance. is so tone deaf. it is so self-righteous. she does it to serve herself.
is never once to say that she isconfronting her racist beliefs. not once did she everowned up to that. it is more of how to deal withyour daughter if she brings home a black man. that is how it comes off andthat is what people were offended. i think it would've been muchmore courageous if she would've been open and honestand said this is a piece about me confronting my ownprejudices.
>> as a black man that has dateda lot of different races it's kind of one of those where yousit and look at it and it's like, oh, this is how you feel. look at me, i am a hero. no, you're not a hero, you're anidiot. >> that's how i took it. she never called herself out. >>i'm like june cleaver, anyoneis welcome in my house. i want to write a book on how toaccept the persian people if
they come into your house orthe jewish girls. keep it to yourself. yes i have dated people that arenot black, and i do notice different looks that i may geteven today in 2016. it's a conversation that needsto be had. >> she is. but that is what i wantto touch on. i think intent matters and ithink the fact that she is not a malicious personmatters as well.
when i am trying to say is thereis some portion of the country that has a racial bias and itdoesn't come from a malicious place. it comes because of thefamilies they grew up in. we want to fight backagainst that. and you do that througheducating people, through dialogue, through conversation, and i think in this case you guys are right, she does havethat self-righteous, i am a good person and a herotype attitude.
that definitely rubs me thewrong way. when i read it i thought therewas hope for her. she is not a hateful person. i don't want the criticism tomake her revert back to disliking ã± >>i hope she listens. we have all been called out. if you listen, you learn, andyou evolve that makes you much better of a person.
i hope that she can have aself-aware moment. >>yes, there are some people whogave her constructive criticism and i want her tolisten to that. but the nature of twitter, it'sjust ã± people become vicious and sometimes that makesyou defiant. if i get something wrong on theshow, and i get constructive criticism i think it is a goodpoint and i correct my errors. but if the first criticism iread is someone calling me a cunty whore, well then fuck you.
that is a human way of reacting. >> the way she wrote this isincredibly- i don't want to say dumb because it's not ã± it's not accurate but it's likewhat world are you living in? >>shemissed the mark completely. and hopefully she is educatingherself and she is open to evolving and becoming abetter person. >>she needs to watch guess who iscoming to dinner, both versions.
